I started playing guitar when I was about 17. Took me four years before I could sing and play at the same time (apologies to those around me during that period!). While I always enjoyed it, I never felt like I could be worth listening to in even a semi-professional capacity. I looked around and saw performers as people who had what I didn't have, and ultimately I think that was just courage... Eventually, I found my voice and started to play out regularly while living abroad, I suppose it was the acceptance of the uncomfortable that comes from immersion in foreign spaces. Now after 30 years of playing, I've come to love busking, performing on stage, or playing in a quiet space or by a fire with friends. Through many travels, challenges, ups and downs, music is the constant that is increasingly a part of how I define myself as an individual and something I genuinely enjoy sharing. At the end of the day, I just enjoy playing and I'm trying to figure out what to do with that.
